Obituary

Edward James Graham, beloved husband of Nancy Jean (Reese) Graham and Father of Edward (Ted), Richard (Dick), and Suzanne ( Suzy Graham) Paire passed peacefully into the Lord's embrace on the 18th day of January, 2020, at the age of 84. Ed was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania in 1935 to Richard and Margaret Graham and was preceded in death by his parents and two younger siblings, Richard Graham and Marion (Graham) Gertz.
Ed, an undergraduate of Millersville University (1958) and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, married Nancy Jean Reese in 1962 in Media while working as an Industrial Arts teacher and coach in the Marple Newtown School District. He retired in 1992. In the community, he was a Nether Providence (NPAA) little league baseball coach, he served on the Creekside Swim Club board, he was a PIAA wrestling referee for 30 years and ran the Wallingford-Swarthmore Booster Booth for seven (its President for two). He and Rudy Pitelli, a colleague and great friend from Marple Newtown School District, had a side-business constructing fireplaces, additions, and decks throughout Delaware County.
Ed's family was named "Family of the Year" in 1986.
Ed, before being a wrestling coach at both Marple Newtown and Nether Providence Middle School, was quite accomplished and recognized in the sport. He earned MVP awards at both Millersville University and Upper Darby High School where he was "unscored upon" in the regular season before placing 3rd in the Pennsylvania State Tournament (while wrestling with a separated collar-bone). He earned highest honors at Millersville University garnering the Rupp Award and a place in Millersville's Hall of Fame.
As a member of Wallingford Presbyterian Church, he served as a deacon, an elder and on its session. After retirement, Ed enjoyed boating, golfing and improving his children's homes. He spent time, of course, doting on his grandchildren and serving as a Senior Craftsman at Media Presbyterian Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, his three children, and seven grandchildren (Tim, Reese, Ted, Weston, Hope, Anna and Grace). A celebration of Ed's life will be held on February 8th at the Media Presbyterian Church in Media, Pennsylvania: Calling at 10 am; service with lunch to follow at 11 am.
