Tribute & Message From The Family

On February 10, 2021 Arthur (Art) A. Donzanti, Sr., 93, of Broomall passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with COVID. Art was born in Philadelphia on March 23,1927 to James and Lena (Imperiale) Donzanti. He proudly served for seven years in the US Army, the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines during World War II, and the Korean War. He received eleven medals honoring his faithful service including The Purple Heart, The United Nations Service Medal, The World War II Victory Medal, The Korean War Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and The National Defense Service Medal. He was recognized with "The Tour of Honor" in Washington DC in May 2016 in recognition for his service during World War II. He was also honored at the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War in July 2003.

Art dearly loved his family, his country and God. He worked for Curtis publishing, was co-owner of Hannigan's Restaurant, and was self-employed before retiring. Art and his beautiful wife Josie enjoyed sharing their time together by traveling, being with family and friends and preparing amazing meals each day. He was an avid, extremely loyal Philadelphia sports fan. Art has two sons who require special care and to whom he was unwaveringly devoted. He was relentless in assuring they had the support, comfort and love he knew they deserved. They will dearly miss him.

Art is survived by his wife Josephine (Sbaffone), sons Arthur, James (Rosemarie) and Steven, grandsons Zachary and Nicholas and his loving sisters Rita Notaro, Evelyn Casalena, and Carol (James) Hellauer. He is also survived by Gloria (DeFrancesco) Donzanti, mother of Arthur, James, and Steven.

Funeral services, military honors and burial will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church and Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery when it is safe for all to gather. Family and friends will be invited to say goodbye and celebrate Art's beautiful life when arrangements are made at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Art's memory to:

Arty, Jimmy, Stevie,
Thinking of you. remembering our times on Parke Lane sledding and playing baseball in your backyard as well as combat in the woods. Your dad would stop by at Christmas in those days to visit too. i also remember Gloria, your sweet and beautiful mom who held it together despite challenges. Know i'll be thinking of you as you take in the loss of your dad. love, Patti Bell Jensen

Art lived life to the fullest, and what a distinguished life he lived. He always had a smile for us, and we will miss his humor. Our memories of watching his craft at the blackjack table, dining at Italian restaurants with him and Josie, and all the birthday celebrations that we attended will stay in our hearts forever. He was truly a member of the Greatest Generation, and their kind is sorely missed. Our prayers for peace and comfort go out to Josie and all his family. Love, Mike & Judy
