Condolence & Memory Journal

There are so many words that could describe my Aunt El. Kind, thoughtful, generous, caring and loving the list could go on. But they are just words. It was an honor and a blessing to have shared a family connection with Aunt El. She was first my Dad's sister and then became one of my Mom's best friends at St. Gabriel's grade school. Then she became my Mom's sister-in-law and when I was born in July 1961 she became my Aunt and Godmother.
My fondest memories of Aunt El are of sharing holidays, celebrations, and sometimes just plan old Sunday dinners. Whether it be on Swarthmore Ave or Tasker St in Ridley Park or Granite Farms in Media or at one of our houses. Whether it just the Scattergood Family or with our Curtin and Gallagher cousins, there was so much laughter, stories told and many memories that will be forever cherished.
I will miss her so much, but in my heart I know she is at peace and is with all of our loved ones who have gone before us. Rest in Peace Aunt El.
Love You Always,
Ann Marie Scattergood DiCugno

Aunt E as I affectionately called her the last several years, enriched my life with her wit, wisdom and perspective about life and family. Aunt E was a strong independent woman who lived life on her terms. She was so generous and very willing to help family in times of need; and volunteered for many years for the Red Cross Blood Drives after she retired from Bell Telphone. Aunt E was the Scattergood matriarch who regularly kept in touch with her immediate and extended first and second generation family sustaining the value of family and staying connected in good and not so good times. Needless to say she loved to be a part of family gatherings for holidays and birthdays and enjoyed visits from family; and she had a wealth of memories about family from different generations that she was more than willing to share- she and I spent many hours talking and laughing about the stories which enhanced and refined my ancestry research-and of course I reported back to her on my discoveries :-) . I will miss her dearly but the wonderful memories I have of her will last forever.
To Joe, Anna, and Sarah I hope your own fond memories bring you more laughter than tears during this difficult time.
