Tribute & Message From The Family

SFC (Ret) John Thomas McCann

John Thomas McCann, son of the late James Francis McCann and Dolores Virginia (Wilson) McCann, was born September 6, 1959 in Darby, Pennsylvania. He passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 in his home in St. Robert, Missouri having attained the age of 60 years.

Johnny grew up in Folcroft, Pennsylvania and attended grade school at St. George's School in Glenolden, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Sharon Hill High School in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania.
Johnny was a hardworking man and worked for his father with McCann & Sons Brick Pointing while still in Pennsylvania. He then entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his honorable retirement in 2004. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and earned several awards and commendations.

During his time in the military, Johnny served as both a cannon fire direction specialist and a CBRN specialist, spending over 11 years overseas, and eventually was moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he and his family decided to stay. He continued to serve his country as a civil service employee with the Department of the Army as a combat developer and retired after 15 years of service.

On July 31, 2004, Johnny was united in marriage to Sharon Marie Herbolsheimer at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They shared over 15 years of marriage together and many wonderful memories.
In his spare time, Johnny enjoyed traveling and watching all sports. Even though he enjoyed all sports, he was an avid Philadelphia Eagles football fan. Anything you wanted to know about the Eagles, you could ask Johnny and he would know.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church on Fort Leonard Wood and also a member of the Chemical Corps Regimental Association. Most importantly, Johnny loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. It was the highlight of his day to get to see his grandchildren. He could make people laugh and he enjoyed brightening someone's day with a good joke or smile. Johnny will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Sharon; his daughter Rhiannon Remillard and husband, Josh of Mills River, NC, and his son, Jessy Casper of Germany; two granddaughters, Gwenevere and Éowyn Remillard; two brothers, James McCann of Folcroft, PA and Matt McCann of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Maureen Moke and husband, Murph of Aston, PA, and Dolores White and husband, Jake of Holmes, PA; his brother-in-law, Rich Unangst of Richmond, TX; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by one sister: Virginia Unangst and one brother: Michael McCann.

Family and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM on Saturday August 22, 2020 at St. George Catholic Church, Lamont Avenue, Glenolden, PA. Interment to follow in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield where friends will be received from 11:30AM to 12:30 PM concluding with US Army Funeral Honors.
