Condolence & Memory Journal

My sympathy to the family and friends of George Arbutina. For many years I knew his mother, Mary Jane. Until today, January 10, 2020, I was not aware of the death of his mother or him. I know they were both very special people and I pray that God will comfort all of their beloved family and friends.

So sorry for your loss. I have really fond memories of George from CGA - he was one of my first roommates - I remember his great sense of humor, intellect, hard work (even though I couldn't convert him to engineering), and his sense of integrity. He was proud of his family, and growing up in Sewickley (I don't know how many times he told me it was the cradle of quarterbacks, and I know he remained a Steelers fan). My thoughts and prayers are especially with Carrie, who was there in those early days - George will be missed.

I only knew George a brief time but he was the sort of person who changes lives. He touched my life as we quickly became good friends. I was devastated to learn of his passing. My heart is with the family. George always talked about the love of his life and his grandkids who were his everything. He will be missed and thought of everyday.

We are so sorry and saddened to learn of George's passing. I have many find memories of "Georgie" from our younger years. He became an outstanding man and a great American.
May the Lord God give you Peace at this trying time.

Wanted to extend my condolences to the family and friends of George Arbutina, CGA 1979 classmate. A man of true integrity and high intelligence....I know he is much missed. His classmates will always hold George in high regard and I am sure he has a special place in many hearts. Fair Winds, George

As classmates at the Coast Guard Academy together, I can remember George as remarkably mature and insightful at a time when many of us were still finding our adult feet. Kind, fun, ethical, inclusive, generous... an example, sharp in my recollections. While we tread our different paths after graduation, there is no doubt in my mind, that these and his many other fine qualities, live on through his loved ones. No higher legacy.

It was awful to hear of George's passing. We were classmates at CGA (where he was brilliant), married our sweethearts upon graduation just hours apart at the chapel, and spent the next two years as shipmates on the CGC Papaw in Charleston, SC. Carrie and Robin spent a lot of time waiting for us to return from deployments in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. George was always cool, calm, and collected and was very well liked by all he met. "Sure, sure, sure", he will be sorely missed.

So sorry to hear that George has crossed the bar. I was his class advisor at the Coast Guard Academy over forty years ago and still remember him as a fantastic cadet and impressive human being. His passing is a great loss to the Class of 1979.

George was an amazing man one of the most amazing men I have ever met !! I was given the pleasure and the gift of having him in my life through work . I worked with him for over 20 years. He was a great friend and like a second father to me at times with his great advice. I will miss him dearly he was definitely an inspiration. Always spoke of his wife, kids and grandkids and his cats :) so fondly he loved them so much and was so proud . He will be greatly missed , I will cherish the memories forever .
