Tribute & Message From The Family

Rita June Larkin, peacefully passed at home on Monday, August 12, 2019, at 11:11pm
surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 7, 1934 in MD to the late Flora Rebecca (Seibel) Hall and Robert J. Walton. Rita enjoyed sharing fond memories of growing up with nature on her parent's farm in Maryland and spending time on the water in Riva at her mother's home. Her greatest strengths were in listening, expressing love, accepting people for who they were and giving when no one was watching. She had a gentle and caring nature, always kind, and compassionate. Her very existence exemplified love. These gifts she passed on to her family.

After high school while employed with Arcrod Rita met and married her husband of 57 years, Burton J. Larkin. In the 60's they moved to Media, PA becoming lifetime residents, raising 7 children and many animals. While raising her children Rita was employed with Campbell's Boat House for 14 years. Many may remember her for her creativity during the holiday season when she decorated the ship with the Magic of Christmas. Her artistic ability did not stop there, throughout her life she was recognized and awarded for many wonderful pieces of art that she created, in bringing nature to life. She shared in the ownership of a wonderful Media gift shop, named "Fertile Acres", where many handmade crafted items were sold.

Once her children were grown Rita returned to school pursing an education in art. It was then, after graduating from art school she worked alongside dear friend and artist, the late Barbara Hoffert, owner of The Village Art Shop. The time came where she chose to put her life on hold to care for her elderly mother. After her mother's passing she returned to work caring for the elderly at Fair Acres Living Facilities. In the late 90's Rita semi retired, working only academic years with Indian Lane Elementary School, so she could spend summers with her grandchildren, enjoying the time taking them to Linville Orchards and many other fun outings, including sharing time in creating magical fairy gardens for all to enjoy. Eventually fully retiring to care for her ailing husband at home in his last 3 years of life.

Rita's greatest joys always included spending time with her family and pets, playing scrabble, and going to bingo. Rita's life was a great example of a master caregiver, artist, and Mother. Predeceased by: Husband, Burton J. Larkin, and Sons, Burton J. Larkin, Jr and Michael D. Larkin.

Surviving children include: Mary (Larkin) and William Vetter, Timothy Larkin & Colleen (Hayden) Larkin, Lora (Larkin) and Stanley Rines, Jr., Kimberly (Larkin) and Jeffrey Armstrong, Colleen Marie Larkin, 12 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to her Visitation on Monday, August 19th from 9:45 to 10:45 AM at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, Franklin and Monroe Ave, Media, PA 19063. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Media.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rita's name may be made to: www.circleoffriendsforkids.com Rita has been a long time advocate and supporter of this organization. Kim, Sorry to read about your Mom. I have fond memories of the time I spent with her at your daughter's house warming. Time eases the pain. Hope you are doing OK. Wishing you the best. Carole Garzia

Such a beautiful tribute, to a lovely, selfless, quietly strong Woman. Her love for life, her family and kindness to all she encountered is a legacy that will forever live on in her memory. May the celebration of her life bring comfort to all who love Rita. God Bless the Family.
